I Can’t Quit You Baby

Monday through Friday, I wake up at 5 AM to my alarm blasting “#Beautiful” (my favorite song at the moment) and each morning I snooze for 6 minutes contemplating staying in bed and skipping my workout.  During those six minutes, I fight against my laziness with self-disgust, determination, accountability, and a desire to be better.  On those days that my feet actually hit the carpeting, I force myself to go through the motions: brush my teeth, wash my face, put on workout clothes, tie my laces, grab a towel and a bottle of coconut water.  Ten minutes in, Robert/Justin rolls out of bed and joins me and then I’m really set to go.  I love having a partner in all of this. Although our goals are different (weight loss vs. weight gain), just knowing he is always by my side keeps me going.  Once I get on that bike, I harness all the power my sleepy self can muster up and just hit it.  Twenty to twenty-five minutes in, I always find myself looking down at the timer and thinking to myself, “I STILL HAVE 40/35 MINUTES TO GO!?!”  This is when I want to jump off that bike and go lie on the floor, but the prospect of quitting and the subsequent embarrassment keep me pushing and pulling.  After an hour, I jump into the passenger seat, roll down the windows, and breath in the “fresh” Orange County air and I am proud of myself for letting my toes hit the carpet.

Baby, I’m Back

It’s been a long time since my last post.  In the time that has passed, I presented my research on lifestyle changes for the improvement of erectile function, participated in an NCLEX review class, gradually returned to my “paleo” diet, and GRADUATED!!  I feel guilty writing a post when I should be studying or sleeping before my 5:45 AM spin class, so I will just post a bunch of pictures highlighting the fun I have had these past few weeks.

I’ll try and post more regularly and take the time to write actual posts during my study breaks!  Until then, happy summer days!

And Then There Was You

This week was filled with many lasts: my last undergraduate nursing lecture, my last clinical, my last final…  It’s crazy to think that my BSN education will officially be over this Friday.  Nursing school swallowed up two years of my life.  Although they were fun, I’m excited for what the future holds.  I have tackled the difficult job market and landed my dream job, but there is one thing standing in my way.  I could taste the freedom and then there was you, the NCLEX.

Yesterday, we took an NCLEX Predictor Test.  Our professor said that if we got at least a 63%, we have a 95% chance of passing the NCLEX.  Let’s just say I did good enough for not studying…  It was just the right catalyst to get me back on my study routine.  Everything is turned in, I just have to present at a research symposium- no biggie!

NCLEX

I started today with a 5:45 AM Spin Class with Robert/Justin.  I made him eggs before he went off to work and noticed I had two super ripe bananas in our fruit basket.  So here’s the plan: 1) Find a paleo recipe with mushed bananas for breakfast (I’m sick of banana almond butter pancakes), 2) Shower, 3) Go to Vinitha’s for some girly treatments, 4) Review the practice tests I took on the Kaplan website, and 5) Babysit Noah!

Ready, set, go!
