Monday through Friday, I wake up at 5 AM to my alarm blasting “#Beautiful” (my favorite song at the moment) and each morning I snooze for 6 minutes contemplating staying in bed and skipping my workout. During those six minutes, I fight against my laziness with self-disgust, determination, accountability, and a desire to be better. On those days that my feet actually hit the carpeting, I force myself to go through the motions: brush my teeth, wash my face, put on workout clothes, tie my laces, grab a towel and a bottle of coconut water. Ten minutes in, Robert/Justin rolls out of bed and joins me and then I’m really set to go. I love having a partner in all of this. Although our goals are different (weight loss vs. weight gain), just knowing he is always by my side keeps me going. Once I get on that bike, I harness all the power my sleepy self can muster up and just hit it. Twenty to twenty-five minutes in, I always find myself looking down at the timer and thinking to myself, “I STILL HAVE 40/35 MINUTES TO GO!?!” This is when I want to jump off that bike and go lie on the floor, but the prospect of quitting and the subsequent embarrassment keep me pushing and pulling. After an hour, I jump into the passenger seat, roll down the windows, and breath in the “fresh” Orange County air and I am proud of myself for letting my toes hit the carpet.
