The Preemie Donna

Preemie Donna.

There are two widely recognized definitions of the phrase “prima donna.” It can refer to the lead female singer in an opera or concert performance or a vain and undisciplined person who finds it difficult to work in a team (i.e. a prissy ballerina). However, I am neither of these. The word “donna” can simply mean “lady.” Therefore, for the context of this blog, I am “the preemie lady.”

My name is Teresa and I am an aspiring neonatal nurse. As a Bachelor of Science nursing student, I was exposed to the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) in Fall 2012 and realized taking care of tiny babies and their families was my calling. Neonatal nursing provides the opportunity to exercise my passion for patient advocacy and family-centered care. By becoming a NICU nurse, I will take great pride in nurturing young lives and supporting their loved ones through a critical period in their health.

Besides my enthusiasm for the NICU and professional nursing, I also love my Indian (specifically Malayalee) culture, Indian semi-classical and folk dance, garba-raas, other forms of dance, cooking, eating, my cat (Printz), my family and friends, etc.

My goal for this blog is to share my enthusiasm for neonatal nursing and to ramble about living and loving life. You can expect personal experiences from a new graduate nurse, (what I think to be) exciting news and journal articles, and lots of random tidbits.

I hope you enjoy what I have to offer!

❤ Teresa
